About The Event

This OMCTAF program focus is for participants to gain FAA drones license and preparation for the test which will be free for ages 16+ in high school.

Requirements include:

Drone pilots must be at least 16 years old, able to read, write, and understand English, and pass the FAA’s Small UAS Rule part

107 exam to obtain their certificate. Licensed pilots will volunteer to instruct and train the students over the 6 week program.

Level One Recreational Drones Certificate: “The law requires that all recreational flyers pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test and provide proof of passage.” 

Level One instructs all students in the following:

1) Introduction to drones, the industry and career opportunities

2) Learn the rules for recreational flyers and understand the flying requirements

3) Receive education and testing on important safety and regulatory information

4) Take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved test

Ten students that excel in Level One and demonstrate a sincere desire to succeed

will proceed to Level Two.

Level Two FAA Part 107 Commercial Certificate: the FAA requires a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate for flying a drone for non-recreational use. Level Two provides the instruction and training to obtain the FAA remote pilot certificate and includes the

following:

1) Hands-on-Drone flight training classes

2) Commercial drone laws and drone insurance

3) Preparatory instruction to become an FAA-licensed drone pilot

4) Take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved test

OMCTAF, Buckeye Tigers, Urban Aviators Society, Driving Park Civic Association, and United Columbus will

provide program curriculum, content, planning, instructors, administration, volunteers,etc.
